....sure does make for some super rad black and white art! This is the beginning stage of 2nd grade winter cardinal portraits. These will eventually turn into aspen trees.. stay tuned!
....primary and secondary colors these days! Also texture. (notice that background, texture rubbings y'all) These pumpkin patch portraits are just the cutest.. I love seeing the different personalities of their making styles - some pumpkin patches are definitely more patchy than others! :) Love them!
The 12"x 12" piece for the Due E.A.S.T. show; well done my 4th and 5th graders, well done! This piece represents some of the large scale work that will be showcased at our Art + Music = an Ortega Happening on Saturday, November 14th!
....and onto the walls for display! I am so SO proud of my 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders - they all collaborated on this large scale project and did it with joy and style. They worked so well together, and engaged in such wonderfully creative and intelligent conversations about their art and about how they were creating their art.. it all brought a big smile to my face for sure :) I am 144% certain we will be making more large scale projects such as this in the future! Love them.

Our fabulous Ortega young artists are going to be a part of the East Austin Studio Tour! We will be hosting a Happening on Saturday, November 14th from 12 - 6pm and I could not be more excited!! We're finishing up artwork for a little Art Fundraiser around here, and two of my 5th grade girls found some fun with combining their two initials - RAD indeed! And the above is just one of my 3rd graders being spectacular with her use of implied line. Love it

PS but we call them Magic Papers (!!) I am so happy to see all of my young artists after a fabulous summer! The year began with a whole lotta sketchbook making and we are now deep into creating artwork for our Art Fundraiser!
....in this work feel like the most calming and colorful ocean I've ever seen. These stacks of watercolor cylinders are a collaborative piece created by my talented 3rd graders, waiting on the edge of their seat to be displayed in our hallways!
....Martin Creed. That man's balloon filled installation pieces are the bee's knees! And my 5th graders absolutely loved studying and observing those works of his. The image above is of their #martincreed inspired balloon forms; which are now hanging from the ceiling of our art room! Loving them, of course.
....love a neutral color palette. And these #bogolanfini inspired neutrals are no exception! My kindergarteners created some highly detailed pieces and I am loving all of the pattern and repetition within each unique piece!
....talk about what a fantastic job my first graders did on the creation of their Dale Chihuly inspired mobiles? Because they did, and I am so proud of them! These three mobiles are currently on display at the AISD Performing Arts Center for our Youth Art Month Art Show! #youthartmonth

This is such a special event and I am so proud of my young artist for all of their hard work. The show is being held at the new AISD Performing Arts Center and the opening reception is this Sunday, March 8th from 1:00 - 3:00pm and is open to all friends and family.
